Dire Straits- Communique- Mark Knopfler
The second Dire Straits release, Communique early in Summer 1979, is one of those less praised but long-on-satisfaction efforts that remains under-appreciated to this day. a “sleeper” in car collector shorthand and, possibly because it was so overlooked by radio back then, seems remarkably fresh today. I place the Communique collection, which contains “Once Upon a Time in the West”, “Lady Writer”, and the title song, in the same woefully ignored category of personal faves as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ criminally maligned Long After Dark in the same period. Here is my classic rock interview about those early Detford days with Dire Straits main man Mark Knopfler In the Studio. –Redbeard
