David Bowie- Young Americans 50th Anniversary

By the time Young Americans by David Bowie came out in March 1975, the London-born singer/songwriter had ‘morphed from gender-bending Major Tom to alien rock star with Ziggy Stardust, and now blue-eyed Soul Man in homage to the music of New York City’s Harlem, the sweet soul sound of Philadelphia, Motown, and Memphis Stax.

Several songs on Young Americans, including “Win”, “Somebody Up There Likes Me”, “Fame” (with a cameo by John Lennon), and “Young Americans” actually telegraphed the Disco music and cultural scene that would soon follow and dominate the latter half of the Seventies. But true to form as the ever-restless changeling, by that time David Bowie had already moved on to a more severe approach in Berlin.
