Charlie Daniels Band- The Devil Went Down to Georgia 1-13-79
Charlie Daniels told me that he had just finished writing "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" before he and the Charlie Daniels Band performed it at their annual Volunteer Jam in Nashville on January 13,1979 , making this performance the first ever before a live audience .-Redbeard
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers- American Girl- San Francisco 1997
It is a miracle that "American Girl", on the 1976 debut Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers released forty-five years ago, was ever discovered to be played on album rock radio: it was sequenced tenth, last song on side 2! Here TP and the best working band in America then stripped it down to its essence in order to "make it last all night..." during a multi-night stand at San Francisco's Fillmore in February 1997.
Matthew Sweet- Girlfriend- San Diego 2014
On the night back in 2014 when Matthew Sweet and band played the San Diego suburbs, the crowd waited patiently for his showstopper, "Girlfriend", and Matthew and band obliged of course with this solid performance.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee-to-be Todd Rundgren performed a concert in Connecticut in 2015 that was breathtaking in it's career overview, from the Nazz to Utopia, and including almost five decades of brilliant solo songs such as "Can We Still Be Friends?".

Todd Rundgren performed a stunning version of "Black Mariah", one of my all-time TR faves (originally found "when the kid gets heavy..." on Something/ Anything? almost fifty years ago ) when he played Ridgefield CT back in 2015, and this high…
John Mellencamp- Get a Leg Up- garage 12-91

Some of today's biggest Hall of Famers, such as John Mellencamp and his excellent band, still rehearse there, as I found out one snowy Christmas season in 1991. "Get a Leg Up" comes straight off the garage floor, no overdubs.
Styx- Mr Roboto- Bossier City LA 2-21-20
Styx was one of the last bands to come off the road when the COVID-19 lockdown silenced the live music industry in early 2020, and Styx was among the very first to re-emerge back in early June 2021. I simply love what the group does live these days with the AI-themed "Mr. Roboto".
Boston- Something About You- Worcester MA 8-16-87
Here is an amazing 1987 performance of "Something About You" by Boston with incredible twin harmony guitars from Tom Scholz and Gary Pihl, and Doug Huffman providing superb vocal harmony for the late Brad Delp.

Pete Townshend returns In the Studio for the 50th anniversary of the timeless "Who's Next". Here is The Who with Kenney Jones on drums in Toronto December 1982 with a spirited "Baba O'Riley".
